About the Series:

Birds in View is a reverse glass oil painting and mixed media collage series celebrating joyful moments found in watching backyard birds forage, rest, and play amongst nature’s bounty - finding connection in curiosity and wonder.

Each piece in this series begins with a digital line drawing created from Jennifer’s years of sketching and painting birds combined with outlines formed from her personal collection of botanical photography images. The illustrations are then printed and used as a template for the final image which Jennifer first draws onto glass. She limits the use of each of these original designs while creating a unique work of art with the color, texture, background, and materials she chooses to layer onto the initial inked design - including pages from vintage books, oil paints, and pastels.

With this art, guided by a love of her surrounding natural world, Jennifer chooses to be mindful of resources by using frames, glass, and collage materials repurposed from family, friends, and those found at estate sales and antique stores. Because they are often decades-old materials, imperfections are expected which Jennifer considers a part of the experience and life of each piece. They become as delicate and fragile as the environment they celebrate.

“Watching these sweet little birds around my home and the nearby forests and fields, grounds and sustains me. I hope by presenting them here in this unique way, they will inspire us all to celebrate and protect this precious view.”

~ Jennifer
